Echo

Local voice dictation for Windows. Global keyboard shortcut, on-device transcription, automatic text insertion.

Download

Download for Windows

Echo v0.1.0 · .zip · ~150 MB

Unsigned application — Windows SmartScreen may show a warning (More info → Run anyway).

How it works

1Activation (Ctrl + Space)
The global Ctrl + Space shortcut works everywhere in Windows, even while Echo runs in the background.
2Dictation
Dictate your text. Echo captures the microphone until recording stops, depending on the selected mode.
3On-device transcription
Transcription runs entirely on your device using faster-whisper (CPU or GPU). No audio leaves your machine.
4Automatic insertion
The transcribed text is inserted at the cursor, in the active application — email, code editor, browser, and so on.

Features

System requirements

Installation

  1. Download the .zip archive.
  2. Extract the contents into %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs — the Echo folder is created (no administrator rights required; avoid C:\Program Files).
  3. Run Echo\Echo.exe.

The application installs per user, without administrator privileges. On first launch, Echo downloads the transcription model (about 800 MB) into %APPDATA%\Echo\models — an Internet connection is required only then; the application works fully offline afterwards.
